GD Goenka School of Fashion & Design (SOFD) is a constituent of the proposed GD Goenka University*. Being established in academic collaboration with the famous Politecnico di Milano of Italy, the school will bring the edgy Italian design education to Indian students. Politecnico di Milano is considered one of the most outstanding universities in Europe that produces 85% of all design graduates in Italy. In terms of rankings, Politecnico di Milano is ranked no. 1 in Italy, 18th in Europe and 48th in the world (according to The Times Higher Education-QS World University Ranking 2011). (*LOI no 20/21-2011 UMP(5) dated 25-4-2012 received from Haryana Government under Haryana Private University Act. GDGU will award UGC approved degrees)
The School of Fashion & Design is promoted by the GD Goenka Group – one of the most trusted names in education since 1993. The school aims to offer high quality education in selected areas of Fashion and Design businesses at both UG and PG levels, with a view to build a generation of creative professional designers, capable of serving as change agents for their respective industry segments. Academic leadership will be provided by Dr. Sanjay Gupta, a well known personality in the field of design education and formerly the Dean of NIFT i.e. the National Institute of Fashion Technology.
GDG-SOFD will also provide for the first time in Delhi NCR an opportunity to design students to study in a true University environment. The University is built in a 20 acre campus which is further supported by another 45 acre GDG Education City housing the air conditioned and wifi boarding and lodging facilities for students; a fitness centre with swimming pool, spa, salon, squash courts etc; an ATM and a super market. Location wise, Gurgaon is one Delhi NCR neighbourhood that is one of the most vibrant areas of the city, with cafes, art galleries, boutiques, theatres, museums and restaurants up-close. There are numerous multiplexes, malls and eating joints in the close vicinity where students after classes can hang-out.

Admission Process
Applications are reviewed for basic eligibility, academic performance, and other evidence of the candidate’s suitability to his/her preferred programme and issues an admit card for DAT. The admit card must be collected personally. For applications sent by post/courier, the applications must be received at the admissions office at least 12 working days before DAT date.
DAT will be held at prescribed examination centres on 2 consecutive dates: Friday afternoon and Saturday morning to provide flexibility of choice to candidates appearing in multiple examinations. Short listed candidates will be called for a personal interview as per the schedule conveyed personally.
Based on the selection, an offer of admission to the programme of your choice will be sent via an email, followed by an official letter of admission via courier. Details regarding payment of fees at the time of admission, allotment of Hostel and date, time and venue for commencement of the academic session will be included in the admission letter. Offer of admission will be valid only for the particular programme opted by the candidate for the given academic session.
Format of Design Aptitude Test (DAT)
Design education demands a combination of some very particular intellectual and Practical Skills. DAT (Design Aptitude Test) ascertains the competency of applicants for undertaking the study programmes at SOFD. DAT is designed to measure domain-related cognitive capacity of applicants in terms of lateral/ conceptual thinking/ analytical and critical thinking and the ability to hold multiple and potentially contradictory possibilities in mind simultaneously through a set of psychometric aptitude tests to measure abilities (such as verbal, numerical) and reasoning abilities (such as verbal, numerical, logical, spatial and abstract reasoning). The test shall check the Social/ historical/ cultural and political awareness; perception and observation skills and the ability to generate new ideas along with skills for visual communication.
